Pat Barton.
Visual artist, designer, and fine art printmaker.
Ink on paper. The allure of making “multiples.” And pondering the eternal puzzle of who we are as human beings, what we feel, what we do, and what’s important to us as individuals or groups. This inspires me every day.
My work is influenced by the social commentary of Goya and Daumier, the vision of life by Cassat, and the photography of Marion Post Wolcott, Walker Evans, Robert Frank, and Todd Webb. Using my own photographic resources and drawings, my work takes stock of people, places, and things that stimulate an awareness of the beauty and patterns of life—or simply amusement about how funny people can be.
Currently, I am exploring making art using new printmaking techniques: photopolymer plates, a nontoxic method of making photogravures and reliefs, and inkjet transfers. You can usually find me working in my studio in St. Louis.
I welcome your inquiries about my art. Get in touch.
“I explore narratives that can stimulate dialogs in the minds of viewers—or even generate actions by the observer—that can and will make a difference.”
